Diane Martel, director of Britney Spears “3″ Music video told Life & Style magazine about working with Britney in the “3″ video saying it’s “her next sexy video”: “I think it’s her next sexy video, It’s a very simple video for her — I don’t think you’ve seen her this much under a magnifying glass. Everything’s really strong and playful.”
Martel says that Britney has helped her in the wardrobe for the video as well as hair and makeup and on the process of choosing the music video’s choreographers: “We collaborated on the wardrobe and had meetings about hair and makeup people. We talked a lot on the phone and met Tone and Rich — two of the best choreographers.”
Martel adds that Britney is a great artist to work with: “She’s so sweet and funny and so normal and down to earth. It’s really fun as a director to see her in front of the camera. She’s so creative with this stuff. The video is very simple, it’s very, very minimal. So it’s her, her, her. And she’s totally engaging every second. She really knows how to work with a camera and move. I was really impressed, and I have worked almost with every female artist in the business.”
Diane has directed, among many other music videos: “Heartbreaker” (1998, Mariah Carey), “Like I Love You” (2002, Justin Timberlake), “Nobody’s Home” (2004, Avril Lavigne), “Listen” (2006, Beyonce), “Love Sex Magic” (2009, Ciara), “Mad” (2009, Ne-Yo) and “America’s Suitehearts” (2009, Fallout Boy).

“3″ also opens the Hot 100 at #1 exactly one year after “Womanizer” hit the top spot on the chart week dated to October 25 in 2008, while “3″ chart week is dating to October 26.

Britney Spears came with the most racy lyrics of her whole career, in “3″, the pop princess talks about a 3-some, and the media kinda loved it, or just bashed, check some review from “3″:
Britney Spears is making the most of her sex symbol status, again.[...]
Produced by swedish hitmaker Max Martin, “3″ finds Spears singing about the racy subject of a ménage a trios with her signature coy delivery. “Three is a charm, two is not the same,” Spears coos seductively on the verse. “I don’t see the harm, so are you game?” [...]
– Billboard
Britney Spears’ new single “3? — the sole fresh song off her upcoming best-of compilation The Singles Collection — debuted this morning on New York Top 40 station Z100, and yes, in the spirit of Jane’s Addiction’s “Three Days,” the song is about having a threesome. Spears has never been shy about courting controversy, and this song will likely receive plenty of it. “3? is yet another product of producer Max Martin, the Swedish pop savant who also gave the world Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” and Spears’ “If U Seek Amy,” so a track about ménage à trois would be the feasible next step in his repertoire.
The music itself seems to borrow from the Flo Rida playbook, as “3? is more of a surefire dance-floor stomper than anything Brit loaded onto Blackout or Circus. “Merrier the more, triple fun that way,” Spears sings in one of the many, many innuendo-packed lyrics that seem like they were spawned from Prince’s Dirty Mind-era brain. There’s also “Three is a charm, two is not the same. I don’t see the harm, so are you game?” and “If you don’t like the company, let’s just do it you and me. You and me… Or three… Or four…” The song also boasts the strangest Peter, Paul and Mary reference we’ve ever heard. [...]
– Rolling Stone
[...]The track was produced by hit-maker and longtime Spears collaborator Max Martin, who also produced “… Baby One More Time,” and its subject matter — which appears to be about loving multiple people at one time — is sure to cause a stir. Of course, Spears has been causing that kind of stir since she dressed in a sexy school-girl uniform for the “… Baby One More Time” video.
The song, which is posted on New York radio station Z-100′s Web site, is a catchy dance track with provocative lyrics, such as, “1, 2, 3/ Not only you and me/ Got 180 degrees/ And I’m caught in between.”[...]
– MTV
We’re happy Britney Spears is getting so much quality time with her sons, but she may want to scale back the Sesame Street marathons. And not just because her new, slightly phoned-in single, “3,” could very well have been brought to us by the letters W, T and F.
The only new track to appear on her forthcoming compilation, The Singles Collection, the fun-with-numbers song—which debuted this morning on New York’s Z100—features such thought-provoking lyrics as “everybody loves counting,” “come out and play,” and, oh yes, the ad nauseam repetition of “1, 2, 3.”
Of course, the ménage à trois-promoting (and, oddly enough, Peter, Paul and Mary-referencing) tune isn’t for the Big Bird set. Unless they too think that “living in sin is the new thing.”
And it being a Britney track, we’re well aware it’s also not for the lyric-dissecting set. It’s for the dance-floor set. And, since it happens to have been produced by Max Martin, the same guy responsible for Spears’ career-launching “…Baby One More Time,” we’d say it has a pretty good shot at becoming a hit.
– E!
[...]And the message? The song stays close to the Spears playbook of sex and more sex, deflecting all attention away from her myriad controversies to put the focus squarely on the come-on. “Living in sin is the new thing,” Spears coos in the lyrics, but the topic is old news for her.
The song is slick, but it’s cold, and therefore in line with Spears’ recent trek around the globe[...]
Yet there was little attachment to the song, zero interaction with the audience, and skin stood in for emotion — or even talent. Like “Blackout” and “Circus,” “3″ is a study in production; give Spears’ team credit for elevating the song above typical dance products.
Her vocals stick close to snyths, and as the song builds, it becomes near impossible to tell the two apart. In a gambit that’s worked for Spears before, she sounds sweetly generic. “What we do is innocent / Just for fun,” she sings, even if she means anything but in what is a rather angelic-sounding bridge.
It’s the emotionless striptease as pop song, complete with studio-perfected sexual moans, that may or may not stand in for an R-rated word, and a clever digital down-tune into an eager, count-along chorus. The cut’s biggest oddity is the lyrics that reference folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, as if they were some sort of acoustic ménage à trois.[...]
– Los Angeles Times
Britney Spears’ 3 lyrics have been released today. For those of you who have seen them, what do you think about the Britney Spears’ 3 lyrics?
Like many of her songs, they don’t sound very deep or meaningful. However, Britney Spears is a pop sensation that is unparalleled by her peers.
[...]They sound kind of racy to me – definitely not something I would want my 13 year old daughter belting out at the top of her lungs.
Of course, Britney Spears has been controversial since her lyrics and dance routines have gotten more and more racy. In the beginning, Britney Spears was a simple, Louisiana beauty singing feel-good songs. Now, she’s an international sex symbol plagued with a past that includes controversial breakdowns and plenty of drama[...]
While we keep on waiting until 7 AM (ET) on 09/29 to the release of “3″ on Z100 New York, Digital Spy teases us with a review of the song that matches the leaked lyrics that will be following right after the review below:
1. It’s called ’3′ and it’s a Max Martin production.
2. We won’t beat around the bush – it’s about having a threesome.
3. The chorus, which has more than a hint of the playground chant about it, goes like this: “1-2-3 not only you and me / Got 180 degrees / And I’m caught in between / Counting 1-2-3 feed upon that three / Getting down with repeat / Everybody loves ohhhhh”. The “ohhhhh”, in case you were wondering, is a classic Britney lusty sigh.
4. Britney makes her intentions very clear elsewhere, telling us “living in sin is the new thing” on the bridge and offering this coaxing couplet on the second verse: “Three is a charm, two’s not the same / “I don’t see the harm, so are you game?”
5. Enough already with the lyrics! What does ’3′ sound like? Well, it’s uptempo, quite electropoppy on the verses and a little bit ravey on the choruses.
6. ’3′ would fit better on Circus than Blackout – it’s got that slightly cartoony quality that the more recent album sometimes has. The Britney track to which it’s most closely related is probably ‘If U Seek Amy’, though they’re more like second cousins who only see each other at family funerals and weddings than brother and sister.
7. The best bit of the song is the middle 8, on which Max Martin cools things down with some synthetic strings, a load of bassy beats kick in and Britters offers her boyfriend a get-out clause: “If you don’t like the company / Let’s do it just you and me…”
8. …Before promptly changing her mind by suggesting “or three… or four on the floor”. That last bit’s pretty clever, because the beats she’s singing over at the time could legitimately be classified as “four-on-the-floor”.
9. It took us a few plays to fall for ’3′ – and truth be told it’s no ‘Gimme More’ or ‘Womanizer’ – but as a fun, fruity newbie to round off a potentially brilliant Singles Collection, it does its job very well indeed.
10. It’s premiering on US radio today, so expect to be hearing it very soon. The first UK play, in case you were wondering, will be on Radio 1 this Wednesday afternoon.
More leaked lyrics, More craziness, hotness and more “is that true ?”:

Check out the leaked lyrics of the song: EDIT NOTE (Sept 25 – 19:55 ET): Brittanica did not confirm the lyrics. She only confirmed that “Peter, Paul and Mary” are a part of it, Anyway, This leaked lyrics are hot!
righteous peter had a master,
whom he always obeyed,
said no matter what the circumstance,
he never would stray
paul, he was an honest man,
he lived by the book,
he prayed 7 days a week,
swore he’d do whatever it took
mary was a busy girl,
she loved to have fun,
set her eyes upon the holy man,
promised she’d make him the one
bridge;
bright eyes,
cold hearts,
ooh, they’re making they’re way,
close your eyes, boys and girls,
a night like this..
we better pray
chorus;
peter, paul, and mary,
ooh, they’re three of a kind,
burning bridges, breaking hearts,
and not a single one minds.
independent. cruel intentioned.
peter, paul, and mary,
are having a 3,3,3some
right now peters kinda struggling,
says it’s getting real tough,
cause everybody’s talking bullshit,
’bout the master he loves
and while paul may know the right from wrong,
i guess he no longer minds,
cause according to the good book,
our boys been tellin’ some lies
mary wants to settle down,
or so, i hear that’s what she says,
but though she’s got her holy lovers heart,
she’s been visiting some others beds
bridge;
bright eyes,
cold hearts,
ooh, they’re making they’re way,
close your eyes, boys and girls,
a night like this..
you better pray
chorus;
peter, paul, and mary,
ooh, they’re three of a kind,
burning bridges, breaking hearts,
and not a single one minds.
independent. cruel intentioned.
peter, paul, and mary,
are having a 3,3,3some
times are getting tough,
and and now peter has denied
the master whom he always loved,
said he’d always stand by.
paul’s all caught up,
playing games, can’t tell the truth,
but to support the accusations,
damn, we’ve got such little proof
and while her story may be altered,
the furied crowd may never know,
but mary shruggs it off and smiles,
with just a wink and a sew
peter, paul, and mary,
ooh, they’re three of a kind,
burning bridges, breaking hearts,
and not a single one minds.
independent. cruel intentioned.
peter, paul, and mary,
are having a 3,3,3some
peter, paul, and mary,
ooh, they’re three of a kind,
burning bridges, breaking hearts,
and not a single one minds.
independent. cruel intentioned.
peter, paul, and mary,
are having a 3,3,3some
