In the midst of another trying week in Britney Spears’ personal life, she receives some positive professional news as “Gimme More” opens at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs with 179,000 downloads and soars 68-3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both charts will be posted tomorrow (Oct. 4) on Billboard.com.

“More” is her fifth Hot 100 top 10 and her best showing on the list since her smash debut “…Baby One More Time” hit No. 1 for two weeks in January 1999. Her last top 10 was “Toxic,” which peaked at No. 9 in March 2004.

Earlier this week, a California judge ordered Spears to hand over custody of her two small children to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline. A hearing is scheduled today for further custody proceedings between the couple.

Spears’ as-yet-untitled new album is still on target for a Nov. 13 release via Jive.
